Court Reduces Sentence of Evangelist Patricia Asiamah, Popularly Known as Agradaa
An Accra Circuit Court has reduced the prison sentence of controversial evangelist Patricia Asiamah, formerly known as Nana Agradaa, following an appeal filed by her legal team.
The evangelist, also known as Mama Pat, was initially sentenced to 15 years imprisonment after being found guilty of defrauding members of the public through false religious claims and money-doubling schemes.
After reviewing the appeal, the court reduced her sentence to 12 calendar months, citing considerations including legal submissions made on her behalf, this in calculations means Mama Pat should be out in 4 months time.
Evangelist Patricia Asiamah, who rose to prominence through television and social media preaching, was convicted on multiple counts of charlatanic advertisement and defrauding by false pretence, after the prosecution proved that she collected money from unsuspecting victims under the guise of spiritual intervention and financial multiplication.
Despite the reduction, the court stressed that the punishment should serve as a deterrent to others who may exploit religion to deceive the public.
Evangelist Patricia Asiamah, also known as Agradaa or Mama Pat, will continue to serve the remainder of her sentence in lawful custody.
