Wontumi Trial: Prosecution Closes Case as Court Grants Accused 14 Days to File No-Case Submission
The prosecution in the ongoing trial involving Bernard Antwi Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi, has officially closed its case, paving the way for the next phase of legal proceedings.
At the latest court sitting, the prosecution informed the court that it had concluded the presentation of all its witnesses and evidence against the accused. Following this development, the presiding judge invited counsel for Chairman Wontumi to indicate their next course of action.
After submissions from the defence, the court granted the accused a period of 14 days to file a submission of no case to answer. This legal process allows the defence to argue that the prosecution has failed to establish a prima facie case strong enough to require the accused to open a defence.
Should the court uphold the no-case submission, Chairman Wontumi would be acquitted without being required to present any defence. However, if the application is dismissed, the court will order the accused to open his defence and respond to the charges against him.
The case has been adjourned to a later date for the court to consider the defence’s submission once it is filed.
