Bishop Dag: Prayer Day a Call for Healing, Humility

Bishop Dag Heward-Mills, founder and presiding bishop of the United Denominations Originating from the Lighthouse Group of Churches, has praised Ghana’s newly declared National Day of Prayer and Thanksgiving as a powerful step toward national healing and unity.

Speaking to a solemn crowd during a prayer gathering in Accra, Bishop Heward-Mills described the occasion as a profound act of national humility and an urgent call to seek divine intervention for the country’s challenges.

“If my people, who bear my name, humble themselves and pray… I will pardon their sins and heal their land,” he quoted from 2 Chronicles 7:14, urging Ghanaians to turn from wrongdoing and wholeheartedly seek God’s presence.

A Call for National Repentance and Revival

Addressing the crowd, Bishop Heward-Mills emphasized the far-reaching impact of national prayer, expressing faith that sincere repentance and intercession could bring transformation across key sectors.

“I have faith that through our prayers, God will bring healing to Ghana—in its leadership, healthcare, education, infrastructure, and governance,” he said.

He led the assembly in a heartfelt prayer of repentance, acknowledging the nation’s moral decline, injustice, and spiritual shortcomings.

“Grant us forgiveness, O Lord, for the injuries we have inflicted upon ourselves.”

Bishop Heward-Mills also challenged the public to embrace moral revival, urging citizens to stand against corruption, division, and inequality.

“May justice triumph and dominate in the nation. May our nation experience a profound reconciliation. Let’s come together to ensure our nation receives its blessings.”

A Prayer for Leadership and National Vision

In his address, the bishop specifically prayed for wisdom and integrity in leadership, asking for God’s direction through Ghana’s current challenges.

“Lead us through our challenges and into a brighter and improved future for our country.”

He went on to commend President John Dramani Mahama and other government officials for their role in initiating the National Day of Prayer, noting the biblical importance of honoring God in national life.

“Nations that neglect or forget about God will face destruction. But you honor those who honor you. Thus, we request that you also show respect to our leaders for recognizing you on this occasion.”

A Unifying Moment Across Denominations

The National Prayer and Thanksgiving Day brought together religious leaders and believers from various faith communities, united in their desire to pray for peace, healing, and spiritual revival in Ghana.

As the country continues to face economic and social difficulties, Bishop Heward-Mills and others are hopeful that this national moment of reflection will serve as a turning point toward renewal, unity, and divine guidance.
