Sam George Under Fire for Blunt Reply to Constituent on Social Media

Sam George Under Fire for Blunt Reply to Constituent on Social Media

Ghana’s Minister for Communications and MP for Ningo‑Prampram, Sam Nartey George, has stirred controversy after trading barbs with an X (formerly Twitter) user who pressed him about poor road conditions in his constituency.

What Sparked the Exchange?

The lawmaker had posted on X to dismiss a viral video in which a Nigerian Igbo man claimed he had bought land in Prampram to build a “large Igbo city.” In his post, Sam George asserted:

“There is no King who possesses a kingdom or land within the Ningo‑Prampram Constituency. … Our hospitality should never be assumed or overlooked. Let peace reign.”

“Why Not Fix Your Roads?”

One X user seized the moment to highlight a local grievance:

“Why not advocate for the repair of your roads?”

Sam George’s retort was curt—and quickly deemed offensive by many:

“After I’ve fought to get your mind repaired. Agreed?”

“Revealing His True Nature”

Unfazed, the constituent replied:

“If that’s a higher priority than fulfilling your duties, that’s fine.”

The calm response earned applause from onlookers, who criticized the minister for insensitivity and a lack of composure:

  • “Great response! You’ve demonstrated more maturity than the so‑called minister.”
  • “A random person on X displays more maturity and composure than an actual sitting minister.”

Growing Public Discontent

Many commenters argued that the MP often “discusses everything except when it comes time for him to fulfill his responsibilities.” The episode feeds into broader frustrations over infrastructure gaps—notably the state of roads in Prampram—and raises questions about how public officials engage with citizens online.

Takeaway

Social media can be a double‑edged sword for politicians: while it amplifies their messages, it also magnifies every misstep. Sam George’s brusque reply has reignited calls for accountability and civility—and, more tangibly, renewed pressure for road upgrades in Ningo‑Prampram.
