Popular Ghanaian sports broadcaster Bright Kankam Boadu, widely known as BKB, is reportedly set to part ways with Pure FM in what is shaping up to be one of the biggest media movements in Ghana’s sports broadcasting industry this year.
According to sources close to the development, the respected broadcaster will make the move together with his longtime associate, Oliver Khan, and his entire production crew.
The team is said to include foreign sports news presenter Kacylas, alongside Christian and Maxwell, all of whom have played key roles in BKB’s sports programming over the years.
The group is expected to join Obaapa Radio 100.9 FM and Obaapa Television, media platforms owned by Dr. Lawson Kyei Manu. The businessman continues to expand his influence in the Ghanaian media landscape through his growing portfolio, which also includes Lawson Radio and Lawson TV.
Sources indicate that preparations are underway for the new team to officially begin operations in June, a development already generating significant discussion among sports media followers and football enthusiasts across the country.
Before the reported agreement with Obaapa Media, BKB and his team were also heavily linked with Ahenfie FM and TV. Insider reports suggest negotiations between both parties had reached an advanced stage, with discussions allegedly involving a deal valued at about 6 billion old cedis. However, the move reportedly failed to materialize after disagreements emerged over the financial package expected for the broadcaster’s full production team.
Industry observers believe the addition of BKB and his experienced crew could significantly strengthen Obaapa Radio and TV’s sports broadcasting department and increase competition within Ghana’s increasingly competitive sports media space.
Meanwhile, separate unconfirmed reports circulating within media circles claim that Pure FM may itself be undergoing ownership changes or possible acquisition discussions. However, no official statement has yet been issued regarding those claims.
As of the time of publication, neither BKB nor management of Pure FM and Obaapa Media have publicly commented on the reported transition.
