Benjamin Asare Climbs to Fourth in FIFA World Cup Goalkeeper Rankings
Ghana’s first-choice goalkeeper, Benjamin Asare, has been ranked among the best goalkeepers at the ongoing 2026 FIFA World Cup, climbing to fourth place in FIFA’s latest Power Rankings.
The Hearts of Oak shot-stopper has earned widespread praise after producing a series of outstanding performances for the Black Stars, helping Ghana remain competitive throughout the tournament with several crucial saves and commanding displays between the posts. His performances have established him as one of the standout goalkeepers of the competition.
According to FIFA’s official Power Rankings, Paraguay’s Orlando Gill currently leads the goalkeeper standings, followed by Alireza Beiranvand of Iran in second and Eloy Room of Curaçao in third. Benjamin Asare occupies fourth place, making him one of the highest-ranked African goalkeepers at the tournament.
FIFA introduced the Power Rankings for the 2026 World Cup to provide a data-driven assessment of individual performances. The rankings are updated after every match and evaluate goalkeepers based on their ability to prevent goals and contribute to their team’s build-up play, meaning positions can change as the tournament progresses.
Asare’s rise is another remarkable chapter in his football journey. The 33-year-old only made his senior Ghana debut in 2025 after spending much of his career in the Ghana Premier League. His impressive displays have transformed him into one of Ghana’s most important players and earned him recognition on football’s biggest stage.
The latest ranking reflects not only Asare’s consistency but also Ghana’s defensive resilience during the World Cup. With the tournament entering its decisive knockout stages, the Black Stars will once again look to their reliable goalkeeper to inspire another memorable performance.
