The Nigerian entertainment industry has been thrown into deep mourning following reports of the death of celebrated Nollywood actor Alexx Ekubo at the age of 40.
News of the actor’s passing emerged on Tuesday, sparking an outpouring of grief across social media and within the African film industry. According to emerging reports from Nigerian media platforms, the actor is said to have died after battling an undisclosed illness in recent months. Born Alexx Ekubo-Okwaraeke on April 10, 1986, the actor rose to prominence after emerging as the first runner-up in the 2010 Mr. Nigeria competition. He later became one of Nollywood’s most recognizable faces, starring in numerous blockbuster movies and television productions.
Throughout his career, Alexx Ekubo featured in several acclaimed films including Weekend Getaway, The Bling Lagosians, A Sunday Affair, In the Cupboard, Zero Hour, and Áfàméfùnà: An Nwa Boi Story.
