NEXT HEARING DATE IN WONTUMI SAMREBOI MINING CASE EXPECTED AFTER MAY COURT PROCESSES

The next hearing date in the ongoing Samreboi illegal mining trial involving Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Bernard Antwi Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi, has not yet been officially fixed by the court.

This follows the latest proceedings at the High Court, where the case remains active but is still undergoing procedural and case management steps before the substantive trial continues.

According to court directions, the matter is currently focused on the completion of key filings, including witness statements and other legal documents required by both the prosecution and defence. These filings are expected to be concluded around early May 2026.

After this stage, the court is expected to hold a case management conference, during which a clear schedule for the continuation of the substantive hearing will be set.

The Court of Appeal, in a ruling delivered on Tuesday, April 21, 2026, also dismissed an application by Chairman Wontumi seeking to halt the ongoing trial. The court’s decision means the High Court proceedings will continue without interruption, although no immediate trial date has been fixed.

Legal sources indicate that while the case is progressing procedurally, the next actual hearing date will only be officially determined after the upcoming case management session is completed.

For now, the matter remains active before the court, with both sides expected to comply with all filing requirements ahead of the next phase of proceedings.

The Samreboi case continues to attract national attention as one of the high-profile illegal mining-related prosecutions currently before the courts.
