Fear on Campus: Four Ada SHTS Students Arrested After Viral Cutlass Threat Video

Four students of Ada Senior High Technical School have been arrested by the Ghana Police Service after a shocking viral video showed some students wielding cutlasses and threatening their colleagues on campus, sparking widespread public concern over rising indiscipline and violence in some senior high schools across Ghana.
According to the Tema Regional Police Command, the incident reportedly began following a disagreement among some students on campus which later escalated into threats and intimidation. While police have not officially disclosed the exact cause of the dispute, sources indicate that tensions among the students intensified inside a dormitory, leading to the frightening confrontation captured in the viral footage.
The disturbing video, which circulated rapidly on social media, showed students brandishing cutlasses while issuing threats against fellow students. The footage triggered fear among students and drew strong reactions from parents, education stakeholders, and the general public, many of whom called for swift intervention by authorities.
Police said the video came to their attention around 12:10 a.m. on Thursday, May 22, 2026, prompting an immediate deployment of a night patrol team to the school to prevent any possible outbreak of violence and restore calm on campus.
With assistance from school authorities, police arrested three students identified as Raymond Gyamfi, Oscar Amemoair, and Odartey Wilson, all aged 18, together with a juvenile who also appeared in the video. The suspects are currently in police custody assisting with investigations.
In an official statement signed by the Tema Regional Police Public Affairs Officer, ASP Dede Dzakpasu, the Command strongly condemned acts of violence, intimidation, and the possession of dangerous weapons in schools, stressing that educational institutions must remain safe environments for learning and personal development.
Police also urged students to resolve disputes peacefully through dialogue and established school disciplinary systems rather than resorting to threats and aggression. Parents, guardians, and school authorities were further encouraged to strengthen supervision, counselling, and discipline among students to prevent similar incidents in the future.
Although no injuries were reported, the incident has reignited national discussions about student violence, bullying, and security in second-cycle institutions across the country.
Investigations into the matter are ongoing, and police say further actions may be taken as the case develops.
